JoAnne A. Epps, acting president of Temple University, has died after collapsing at a memorial service. Epps, who was 72 years old, was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead. The university’s board chairman, Mitchell Morgan, expressed deep sadness and praised Epps as a devoted servant and friend. Epps had been named acting president in April following the resignation of Jason Wingard. Epps had dedicated herself to improving the university, particularly addressing enrollment and safety concerns near the campus. Temple University Provost Gregory Mandel described Epps as compassionate and caring, and the university will be working on a plan to address her loss.
