A federal judge in Texas has ruled that a state law requiring age verification and health warnings for pornographic websites violates free speech rights. The law, signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in June, was struck down by U.S. District Judge David Ezra, who stated that it is overbroad and vague. The judge also raised concerns about privacy, as the law would require traceable government-issued identification for age verification. The state attorney general’s office, which is defending the law, has filed an appeal to the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Several other states have passed similar age verification laws.
