A lawsuit filed against the Beverly Hills police accuses them of racially profiling nearly 1,100 Black people during traffic stops between August 2019 and August 2021. Attorney Benjamin Crump, representing the Black drivers, stated that out of 1,088 Black motorists stopped, only two were convicted of crimes. Despite making up only 1.5% of the city’s population, about a third of all arrests during the period involved Black individuals. The city of Beverly Hills has denied the allegations and stated that the role of the police department is to enforce the law regardless of race. The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages.
