The remains of Second Lt. Fred L. Brewer Jr., a Tuskegee pilot who went missing during World War II, have been identified by Defense Department officials. Brewer disappeared on Oct. 19, 1944, while on a mission over Germany. Reports indicate that Brewer’s plane stalled and fell into a spin while attempting to climb out of heavy cloud cover. Despite efforts to recover the body, it could not be identified at the time and was buried as an unknown. However, recent research and German wartime records confirmed that the remains belonged to Brewer. His family hopes to bury him in Charlotte.
