Ethan Nordean, a former leader of the Proud Boys extremist group, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot. Nordean was convicted of spearheading an attack on the Capitol in an attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power from Donald Trump to Joe Biden. Nordean, described as “the undisputed leader on the ground on Jan 6,” led a group of nearly 200 men to the Capitol and helped tear down a fence to allow rioters to enter the grounds. Nordean’s sentence ties the record for the longest sentence in the attack.
