Michigan State University has suspended football coach Mel Tucker without pay following allegations of sexual harassment made by activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy. The university has hired a Title IX attorney to investigate the complaint, with a hearing scheduled for next month to determine if Tucker violated the school’s sexual harassment policy. Tucker admitted to masturbating during a phone call with Tracy but claimed it was consensual “phone sex.” If fired for cause, Tucker would not receive the remaining amount on his contract, which is in its third year. This scandal follows a hazing scandal involving Northwestern University’s former football coach, Pat Fitzgerald. Michigan State has faced previous sexual misconduct scandals, notably involving former sports doctor Larry Nassar.
